In September of 2007, USESR will be celebrating our 10th year as a nonprofit organization. We are proud to share our success stories with you here on this page.
Thankfully, there have been far too many successful placements to list all of them.
Dolly
Dolly's adopter says: "I am very happy with Dolly. She is my big baby. So loving now and trusts me completely. I have no fear at all, just love. Plus, what a gorgeous gal to look at and admire. I feel so proud to have given her a wonderful home and to see how happy she is!!"
Comic Invitation
Comic Invitation lives in Sherman and has three little 'riders' who look forward to years of spoiling him rotten!
Keera was donated to a Sanctuary Rescue where the animals are all extremely well cared for. The Sanctuary's founder saw Keera on our website and asked if she could have her, so naturally, we said yes. Keera is adjusting beautifully in her new home north of Bowie, Texas.
Caddillac's 'daddy' lavishes her with attention. Together, they live with our adopted horse, Mr. Hollywood, in Azle, Texas. They are happy together, but 'dad' also has two dogs and a cat to keep him company.
Toby the Wonder Pony was adopted out to Right Path Riding Academy in Oklahoma. Toby spent 6 weeks in a special, extended Foster-To-Adopt program, because some horses are not calm enough mentally to live the life of a therapy horse. Younger horses are often not suited for it at all, but Toby came through his evaluation period in flying colors!
Chance was donated to us because of permanent nerve damage done by EPM. Pronounced cured by a vet, the damage was too extensive to make him
safe to ride very much. Chance is being used to teach kids to ride, with adult supervision at the end of a lead rope only. Chance lives in
Wise County, Texas.
Ouiji's days of being offered for placement are over. We've placed her several times and she is such a hard keeper, she cannot maintain her weight. Ouiji lives in Intake Foster Care in Bridgeport, Texas.
Shaariah is a straight Egyptian mare who lightly foundered in the past and has degeneration in her hocks.
She is a quiet, calm, gentle, well-mannered, sweet mare who formerly served as a handicapped kids lesson horse.
She was adopted to an Arab enthusiast near McKinney, Texas, for her grandchildren to ride around the pasture.
Honey is a beautiful light honey colored 22 year old Appaloosa/QH blend. She has slight ring-bone on her front left, but is great for
light trail rides or on a lead for a training horse. Honey is pretty much bomb proof has a sweet disposition and loves attention. She would
make an excellent first horse or beginning riders upgrade. She has found a new home for life with a new mom who plans on spoiling her.
Scout is an 8 year old grey dapple Anglo Arabian/Thoroughbred gelding, of good size and excellent health. Scouts owner wanted him to have a
good, safe home for life so she entrusted him to USESR. Scout was very well trained when we received him, and we quickly found out that he
loves attention. His adoptive parents fell in love with him when they saw him on our web site and could not wait to take him home. He now
lives on 27 acres near Austin, with Sunny, one of the Bashkir Curlys, as a pasture buddy. Scout's new mom and dad look forward to spoiling
him.
Sunny is a 7 year old, American Bashkir Curly. She had no training when she was donated to the rescue. Sunny started basic ground training in
her foster home. She quickly progressed and moved on to saddle training. She took very well to the saddle and was ready for finishing
in whatever style her adoptive parents chose. Sunny's new mom and dad are very pleased with her work under saddle and look forward to many
hours of enjoyment with her. She has 27 acres to run and play on with her pasture buddy, Scout.
Geronimo came to us totally unschooled, very young, and very afraid. His foster mom, an officer of USESR, fell in love with him and has
adopted him.
She reports that Geronimo is very good around the children, although not yet calm enough, or old enough for them to ride. Geronimo's winning
personality has won over everyone, thereby ensuring him a permanent, capable, loving home for life.
Update: Geronimo spent several weeks at STB Stables in Krum, TX, being trained to ride. He was quite a challenge, but the gentle & humane training methods
used on him finally won him over. He is now a super horse to ride and his adoptive mom enjoys doing what she has waited so very long to do -
ride her precious Geronimo on trails!
Dutch is a black Jack gelding with grey ears and belly. Dutch was rescued at auction in 1998. After some time in an adoptive home where his adoptive parents were no longer able to care for him,
he came back to USESR to again be placed in a loving home.
This time, Dutch was adopted by a Humane Investigator who lives in the Dallas area. He is very well adjusted to his new family. He had his own
home custom built before he ever arrived and has been ruler of his own kingdom ever since.
Beauty is an older Saddlebred mare who has Navicular and Ringbone. Her foster family has a little boy who fell head over heels in love with Beauty and the family adopted her.
She gets only very light riding and is wearing special shoes to keep her comfortable on her short trips down the road. Beauty shares a home
with another of our rescues, Geronimo. Together they enjoy roaming many acres of lush coastal hay and refreshing stock ponds, as well as the
companionship of other Equine.
Gizmo came to us as a precosious little pony colt. He was adopted by his Foster Care Provider and now makes children happy performing
birthday parties. Gizmo lives near Denton, Texas. To book "Gizzy" at your child's birthday party, call 940-466-3600. Gizmo lives with other
adopted USESR equine, Dolly and Dodge.
4 year old Sugar was rescued from the killer buyers by USESR. She is gentle broke to ride. She will make her new mom very happy. Sugar is
living with another adopted horse, USESR's own Mustang gelding, Rawhide. Congratulations to the new family of four!
Rawhide is a red dun Mustang gelding who was rescued at auction after killer buyers didn't want him because there was some question about his
BLM papers. Foaled in captivity in September of 1997, he was rounded up in Nevada.
Rawhide's new Dad met with him and the two bonded instantly. These two will be just what each other needs. We know Rawhide will have his very
own 'person' in life to trust and to serve. Rawhide will be living in Nacona with another USESR adopted horse, Sugar.
Myster Majestic came to us as an abandoned horse several years ago. Since then, he has been adopted by a wonderful family in Anna, Texas.
Not originally broke to ride, his training is progressing very well and he is well loved in his new, permanent home.
Baby Jack now resides as a pasture buddy for another of our adopted horses, Summer, our beautiful Belgian filly. Both enjoy the rolling
acres of a farm near Gainesville, Texas. Congratulations to B.J. on finding his Forever Family!
Snickers has been adopted by a wonderful couple who own a business near Gainesville, Texas. Snickers was donated to USESR so that he could
retire and be placed in a permanent, loving home for life, never to be ridden again. Snickers served faithfully as a Theraputic Riding Horse
at an academy in El Paso. Congratulations to this distinguished old man on a retirement well earned for many years of faithful service!
Dodge is a handsome bay gelding who needed a patient, understanding rider who would allow him to build his confidence. He found just that
at STB Stables. His foster mom has a trail riding business and many a gentle hand led Dodge along calm, winding trails with no pressure to
perform. His confidence has grown immensely and he is a wonderful, confident trail horse now, a pleasure to ride. Dodge shares his home
with other adopted USESR equine, such as Dakota, Gizmo, and Dolly.
Minnie is a 16 year old Miniature mare with a permanent leg injury which has crippled her. She was adopted by a nice family in Princeton,
Texas, for their handicapped 2 year old son. The two are very happy together. When the little boy saw Minnie for the first time, he let out
a loud squeal of delight. Minnie has found someone like herself, physically challenged, that she can bond with and receive all the love,
affection, and attention that she deserves!
Fancy was adopted in 2002 by her Foster Care Family. Her adoption made a wonderful Christmas present for the children, one the whole family
could rejoice in. Fancy's soundness deteriorated while she was in foster care. She can only travel about a mile, then she poops out, but
her adoptive family doesn't care - they love her anyway and wanted to give her a forever home. Fancy lives near Princeton/McKinney, Texas.
After many months of foster care, Brownie's foster parents adopted him. Their teenage daughter rides him around the pasture. He lives with
another of our horses, Fancy, near McKinney, Texas.
Doc is a 1999 model black & white pinto. He is sound, healthy, and broke to ride. Doc wasn't sound to jump anymore, so his owner gave him
to us. He found a permanent home in Rhome, Texas with first-time horse owner and member, Barb A.
Barb fostered and adopted Ginger as a
companion for Doc. Ginger is a lame QH mare who was donated to us by a loving, caring owner who needed to find a new home for her and did not
want to run her through the auction, where the killer-buyers would surely take her because of her not being sound. Ginger and Doc are very
happy with Barb.
Black Beauty is a 2 year old pony who was rescued from auction where she had been passed around so much and so fast that her coggins papers
stated that she was a yearling Quarter Horse colt with no name. Black Beauty was a handful when we got her. She didn't know how
to lead, she thought she had to fight everyone for her feed, so feeding her was a life-threatening ordeal. She pinned her ears and tried hard
to bite any human who came near her, and if that failed, she'd turn her fanny to them and try to kick. This endearing behavior soon earned
Black Beauty the affectionate nickname, "The Devil Baby". Like all of our equine, The Devil soon learned how nice people can be and became
quite fond of scratching and petting, no longer an agressive fraidy-cat of a horse. Black Beauty was adopted by her foster care provider's
mother, for the grand kids to ride.
Patches was a precoutious little spotted jack who wasn't used to being handled at all when we first got him. He has been adopted and is living
near McKinney, Texas.
Princess was purchased by a group of caring individuals after her owner pulled her up out of a long stay out in a pasture and discovered that
her eye had been injured. He did not want to pay the vet bill, so he was going to take her to slaughter. Princess is a sound, healthy, broke
to ride, Jockey Club registered Thoroughbred mare. USESR accepted Princess and raised money to pay for her extensive eye treatment.
Vice President, Andrew Morrow medicated her eye five times a day for two weeks. Princess was able to retain full vision in the affected eye
and has been adopted to a nice man and boards at a paradise-like breeding/boarding stable near Denton, Texas.
Della is a 14 year old purebred Quarter Horse mare who was donated to USESR by a loving, caring owner after allowing her to be used at a
local handicapped riding facility. Della's arthritis, which led her to the riding facility, finally became severe enough that she could no
longer carry the load of so many needy children. Della served mankind well and has earned her retirement. Her foster mom adopted her. Della's
adoption was her birthday present from her husband. After fostering Della for just a short time, her warm, affectionate personality wormed
it's way into her foster mom's heart and became an uncurable, pleasant affliction. Congratulations to Della who will spend the rest of her
days under numerous Oak trees, pastured happily with other horses in Boyd, Texas.
Chester, aka HomeBoy, is a registered TB, retired from the track, and trained as a Hunter Jumper. He is a beautiful dark brown with excellent
confirmation and lots of energy. Chester's owner donated him to USESR, entrusting us to find him a good home where he could be retired.
Adopted by a member of USESR and now resides near Sherman, Texas
Sonshine was rescued from auction, another victim of a greedy horse owner doping the horse up and trying to get the most money they could
for a sweet, but 'used up' old horse who has earned retirement and easy living. A child was riding him in the auction ring, and that was the
only humane consideration given to him.
He had multiple brands and never had an easy life...until he came to USESR. Sonshine responded well to kindness and good care.
Unfortunately, he developed a neurological disorder which caused him to go down. He was in quite a lot of pain and had to be humanely
euthanized after only a few hours. USESR and Sonshine's adopter were honored to have made his final months on Earth so pleasant and loving.
He stole more than one heart while we knew him!
Luke is an older, slightly lame QH gelding whom we donated to the Abundant Life Children's Home in Decatur, Texas. He is being ridden by
a young man of just 6 years old who has developmental issues. A therapist volunteers her time to give this very special young man his
required riding therapy.
The Abundant Life Children's Home provides short and long-term foster care for disabled/special needs children. They operate on a shoe string
budget and are in need of volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering for the Abundant Life Children's Home in any capacity, please contact
Beth Bookout at labookout@compuwise.net.
Haps and Lacy are two Quarter Horse mares donated to USESR by a loving, caring owner who wanted them to be in a home where they could get a lot
of rest while still being ridden. Best friends for life, they have been adopted by one of our members and will live happily ever after in the
manner in which their generous donor intended for them to do.
Buddy
(some pictures contain graphic images of a large cancer tumor)
20 year old black Shetland Pony gelding, he came to us kind, gentle, trusting and wise...with a large cancer tumor on his Mr. Private. Buddy
now lives the life of Riley on a big rance. His companion is a blind horse and that horse's companion draft horse! He is a child's riding
horse and will be loved and cared for, for the rest of his life.
USESR volunteers rescued Spirit from the killer buyers at auction. His former owner spotted his picture on our website and identified him as her former horse, Rio.
She joined the rescue and fostered him. She had never intended for Spirit to end up at an auction when she swapped him and his dam for two calmer horses after Rio/Spirit's dam caused a permanent injury to someone.
Spirit was young and needed an adopter who could be humane in his or her training methods, yet firm enough to garner Spirit's respect. Spirit found that man through our Petfinder website!
After waiting in Foster Care for more than a year for the right person to come along, Spirit finally went "home"!
