| Welcome |
Thank you for visiting the official website of the United States Equine Sanctuary & Rescue. We are a publicly supported, all volunteer, family organization. Your financial support and volunteer time allows us to make dreams come true, for horses and humans. You are the wind beneath our wings, and we welcome you to our website.
Donating dollars to us is so easy! When you shop at Jeffers Supply on-line, a monetary donation is made to our account. All you have to do is click through to Jeffers Equine by using the logo box at lower left, or copy and save our promotion code for use at Jeffers checkout: 10836.
To show our thanks for your support, we have tried to provide a wide variety of content on the website. We know you’ll want to make use of it for educational purposes and to spread the word that horses are still going to slaughter, still being abused, and still need foster and adoptive homes.

| Kentucky state anti-slaughter law dies in committee! It's up to us to revive it! |
|
The racing industry has been setting a good standard for equine industries recently, by instituting adoption programs for OTTB's (Off The Track Thoroughbreds). Kentucky residents, officials, and politicians alike, loudly denounced the recent false claims of abandoned horses being found in Kentucky. Comments led us to believe that Kentucky was a strongly anti-slaughter state...until a bill that would have made slaughter illegal in Kentucky died in committee recently. Read more to find out how you can help revive this bill and get it passed into law!

| Anti-Slaughter law introduced in New York state |
|
S1462 will prohibit the slaughter of horses for human consumption throughout the State of New York. The United States Equine Sanctuary & Rescue applauds the introduction of this bill, supports is fully, and encourages our supporters in every state to follow California, Illinois, and Texas in outlawing horse slaughter on a state-wide basis. This action can only strengthen our position in regard to our federal anti-slaughter bills! Credit goes to T. Travino of Laughing Horse Sanctuary for giving us this good news!

| Do Microchips Cause Cancer? |
|
In January of 2007, "American Family Voice" printed an article by Jane Williams, entitled, "Implanted Microchips Cause Cancer". Dog and cat rescuers are taking the news in stride, but the article has horse-owners up in arms.

| Special Thanks to the Equine Sports Mecidine & Surgery clinic of Weatherford, Texas |
|
Our rescued OTTB came to us lame. Two veterinarians had x-rayed him and found no reason for his unsoundness. It took the talented veterinarians at the Equine Sports Medicine & Surgery clinic of Weatherford to find out that Bounce was the product of many years of improper trimming. Only then was Bounce able to begin his road to recovery. Read more...

| Anti-slaughter/wild horse legislation makes its way out of Committee |
Update: This bill has passed in the House of Representatives! Legislation to outlaw the commercial sale and slaughter of America's wild horses was passed out of the House Natural Resources Committee on March 7, 2007. H.R. 249 seeks to restore permanent federal protection for wild horses and burros from sale and slaughter for human consumption. This reverses the controversial rider that former Senator, Conrad Burns, snuck into a spending bill late in 2004.
